German requirements for Ausbildung in Germany
Last reviewed 3 November 2026 by the Fliego team
The short answer
For an Ausbildung in Germany you usually need German at B1 level, because the vocational school and the workplace both run in German. Some companies ask for B2, and a few accept less if they confirm it. Check the job advert and the German embassy before you plan your timeline.
What an Ausbildung is
An Ausbildung is Germany's paid vocational training: usually two to three and a half years, split between a company and a vocational school (Berufsschule). You earn a training salary from the start. Because both parts are in German, the language is the first thing to plan.
Which level for which step
| Step | Typical German level |
|---|---|
| Applying and interviews | B1, sometimes A2 for the first call |
| Visa for vocational training | Usually B1, unless the company or training says otherwise |
| Berufsschule theory and exams | B1 at least, B2 makes it much easier |
| Healthcare and care Ausbildung | Often B2 |
Requirements change, so treat this as a guide and confirm with official sources.
A timeline that works backwards from your start date
Most Ausbildung places start in August or September. Count back from there: you need your B1 certificate before the visa application, and visa appointments can take weeks. From zero, Fliego's route is A1 in 8 weeks, A2 by month 5 and B1 by about month 9, depending on attendance and daily practice. See how long each German level takes for the hours behind it.
For parents: what it costs
Fliego is ₹14,999 a month, paid one month at a time with a receipt for every payment. Classes are live, Monday to Friday ([7:00–8:30 PM IST]), in batches of up to 4. Exam fees are paid separately to the Goethe-Institut or telc. There's more on the German for Ausbildung page.
